Fortnight 4: The Ruined Tower in the Fog

Scenario 4: The Ruined Tower in the Fog

Overview

Your patron has given you the task of retrieving a powerful relic from a mage. However the crazed mage is none too keen on letting the relic go and is using the relic and all his power to prevent anyone from seizing it. A mysterious fog has blanketed the area around the tower where the mage is holding out and there seems to be something in the fog...

Terrain

Setup in an area that is roughly 4' x 4'. The centre of the map should be a raised area accessible by steps, gangways or climbing. North of the raised area is a tower accessible from the ground level stairs or by a gangway from the raised area. South of raised area are several ruined houses with gangways to the raised area. Example setup shown below.

Setup

The warband with the lowest rating chooses who sets up first. The first warband chooses one of the corners labelled A or B and deploys their entire warband within a 12" radius of that corner. The second warband deploys within a 12" radius of the remaining corner. Then place a model representing the crazed mage on the top floor of the tower.

Starting the game

The warband with the lower rating goes first

Fog

There is a thick and unnatural fog that blankets the area that is enough to hide a man up to head height. The fog is thick with magic and has enabled those bitter in the afterlife to have some affect on the physical world. Spectres roam under the cover of this fog randomly attacking anyone moving through it.

The fog covers the ground level of the map. It does not have an affect inside buildings or on the raised area or the gangways leading to and from the raised area.

While in the fog, warriors will count as being at a -2 to hit from shooting.

Also if a warrior moves through the fog, at the end of the warriors movement immediately check to see if the scrabbling hands of a spectre ties to harm the warrior. Roll a d6 and on a 6 the warrior immediately suffers a strength 3 hit.

Crazed Mage

At the top of the tower is the mage who is in possession of the relic you seek. He is in a trance-like state weakened by focusing all his power into the relic which has created the fog. He will not react or take any actions. Treat the model as having the statline of a Hired Sword Warlock who is knocked down.

Ending the game

The game ends when one warband fails its Rout test or if one warband voluntarily routs.

Whichever warband kills the Crazed Mage wins the game. If the Crazed Mage is still alive when the game ends then the last warband with models on the board wins.

Experience

+1 Survives. If a Hero or a Henchman group survives the battle they gain +1 Experience.

+1 Winning Leader. The leader of the winning warband gains +1 Experience.

+1 Per Enemy Out of Action. Any Hero earns +1 Experience for each enemy he puts out of action.

+2 Killing the Crazed Mage. If a Hero or a Henchman group takes the Crazed Mage out of action they gain +2 Experience.

Rewards

The winner of the scenario adds the Hourglass of Mortality, that counts as a relic for the campaign victory, to their stash. The relic has no in game use as no magic user in game is powerful enough to use it.
