Scenario 3: The Pickup
Overview
One warband has uncovered a heavy relic that has to be moved by wagon. The wagon has yet to turn up though and an enemy warband is closing in to seize the relic for themselves. Can the wagon turn up in time and get the relic away?
Terrain
Setup
in an area that is roughly 4' x 4'. Leave an area clear 6" in radius from the center. Ensure 4 clear 'roads' that would allow a wagon to travel along, reach the center area from each board edge.
Set-up
The player with the lowest warband rating is the defender and sets up the relic in the dead center and his entire warband in the center area first. He sets aside 1 hero to be the wagon driver and may set aside 1 henchman as a passenger riding 'shotgun'. The wagon does not start the game on the board. The attacking player then sets up his entire warband 4" from any of the table edges
Starting the game
The attacking player goes first.
Relic
The relic is extremely heavy. A warrior may pick it up by ending his move on it. Once picked up, the warrior has a maximum movement of 2". Warriors knocked down, stunned or taken out of action drop the relic where they stood.
Wagon
At the start of the defender's 2nd turn and subsequent turns, the wagon may turn up on a random board edge. Roll a D6 and add the defender's turn number to the result. If the result is a 7 or more, the wagon has turned up! The defender may place the wagon anywhere touching a random board edge.
Driver and Passenger
The driver and the passenger are onboard the wagon sat on the bench. The wagon only has space for the two. The driver is too busy driving the wagon to do anything else. The passenger may shoot or cast spells. The driver and passenger may not engage or be engaged in combat unless they disembark from the wagon. Assume driver and passenger field of vision is 180° in front of the bench.
Movement
In the movement phase if the wagon has a driver it may move forward up to 10" and turn up to 45° from its center at the end of the move. Alternatively it may move backwards 2" if necessary and then turn. The wagon cannot run, charge or be march blocked. It cannot go up stairs or through difficult terrain.
Unstoppable!
The wagon may move (or turn) through models. Any models moved 'through' must take an initiative check or suffer a strength 4 hit. Once resolved the owner of the model may place it 1/2" either side of the wagon. The wagon may move away from being engaged in combat without penalty.
Loading
The relic maybe loaded onto the wagon before it moves. To load the relic a warrior must come into contact with the wagon while carrying the relic.
Boarding or disembarking
Any defending warband members may board or disembark before the wagon moves if there is space. The driver and passenger may change during the game. Once the wagon has moved boarding or disembarking is not possible. Attacking warband members may not board the wagon. The driver and passenger may declare charges and disembark from the wagon.
Damaging the wagon
The wagon counts as a large target for shooting. Attacking models in contact with the wagon will automatically hit if it was stationary in the defenders turn. Otherwise if the wagon moved in the defenders turn attackers can treat it as WS2 for the hit roll. The wagon is Toughness 5 and has 5 wounds. Ignore the effect of critical hits.
Wagon 'injury' chart
Upon being reduced to 0 wounds, roll a D6 for the following chart and apply the affect.
1-2: Horse maimed
One of the two horses is maimed. The wagon now moves at half speed. If this result has already been rolled previously then both horses are maimed and the wagon can no longer move and considered wagon wrecked.
3-4: Driver or passenger struck
The driver or passenger is struck with a blow and thrown from the wagon. Randomly determine which. Apply a strength 4 hit. After resolving, your opponent may place the model 1/2" either side of the wagon. If the driver is thrown, the passenger (if any) may take over as the driver. If there is no driver or passenger, treat this result as wagon wrecked.
5-6: Wagon wrecked
The wagon is wrecked can no longer be used. The driver and passenger are thrown D3" in a random direction from the wagon. They suffer a strength 4 hit. Keep the wrecked wagon on the board as an obstacle.
Ending the game
The game ends when one warband fails its Rout test or if one warband voluntarily routs.
The attacker wins the game if the defender routs before the wagon leaves the board with the relics. The attacker also wins if the wagon is wrecked.
The defender wins if he gets the wagon off the board before the defender routs. The defender also wins if the attacker routs and the wagon is not wrecked.
Experience
+1 Survives. If a Hero or a Henchman group survives the battle they gain +1 Experience.
+1 Winning Leader. The leader of the winning warband gains +1 Experience.
+1 Per Enemy Out of Action. Any Hero earns +1 Experience for each enemy he puts out of action.
+1 Damaging the wagon. Any Hero who causes a wound on the wagon gains +1 Experience.
+1 Keeping the wagon safe. If the wagon is not wrecked when the game ends, the current driver and passenger gain +1 Experience.
